All I need in this life of sin…
Taken some weeks back, finally edited today. Sanna is so cool and was fun to photograph! I remember almost cancelling this session because I didn’t have my camera with me and the initial concept I had was a total misfire :( So we improvised and went with the flow plus Sanna was positive & so patient with me as we tried to figure out the lighting plus new camera (which i ended up borrowing from the school studio). I def enjoyed this session nonetheless!
There is a millions ways these images could have turned out in post production but am so fixated in my summer phase and chose to do something soft, colorful and playful and summer-ish :D!!
plus now I cant get Boney M to stop singing D.I.S.C.O in my head ><

Summer is just around the corner! I think its here olready :D
School is out, the heat done got turned up and I swear people have become a tad bit more friendly lol! Anyway in the spirit of summer i want to share these pictures of my friend Sandra, taken not so long ago.
This will be my first summer in the US and I am quite excited and looking forward to lots of picture posts etc!!

Meet my two classmates & friends, Sandra and Ina. About two weeks ago we drove to Santa Ynez and found ourselves diverting into an undisclosed campsite and started taking pictures. In-fact i think it was a private campsite because we kind of got kicked out (politely) once someone discovered that we weren’t part of the party. oopsy!

My anthem! In love with this song right now, ahhh the magic of youth. *Forever young*
We’re only young and naive still
We require certain skills
The mood it changes like the wind
Hard to control when it begins
The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Can’t help myself but count the flaws
Claw my way out through these walls
One temporary escape
Feel it start to permeate
We lie beneath the stars at night
Our hands gripping each other tight
You keep my secrets hope to die
Promises, swear them to the sky
The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
As it withers
Brittle it shakes
Can you whisper
As it crumbles and breaks
As you shiver
Count up all your mistakes
Pair of forgivers
Let go before it’s too late
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

It feels like forever since my last post! anywhooo, just to assure ya’ll that am still around and alive!!
Its finals week so heck the pressure is unfriendly right now, Iv got tons of photos to share but i guess i’ll prolly do that next week or so. I am currently occupied with compiling and printing 3 portfolios plus one promotional campaign process book (which is out of the way phew) hectic but so exciting!!!
Anyway I wanted to share this image with you. I’ve titled it “Munster”, its a Rosie Hardy inspired flick. I’ve loved Rosie’s version for a long time and i knew that i wanted to replicate it some day so i eventually did one night in March and its been sitting on my desktop collecting dust ever since. Rosie is one of my biggest inspirations and shes one of the greatest and youngest fine art photographers out there, You should check her out!! Am gonna blog about her in coming weeks too.
Wish u grand days ahead :D
Later gator! xx

digital collage inspired by the “Father of Pop Art” Richard Hamilton. A great artist who went on to inspire the likes of Andy Warhol.
Class project, took me about 5 hours conceptualizing the vision & idea plus implementing it in Photoshop. I really enjoyed working on this as its something different to my normal routine and style of work.
I am thinking of doing a 3 piece series of digital collages with this same style. Stay tuned.
xx

Lighting in the studio for portraits is both fun but challenging. However, my life has been simplified upon discovering that there are four main lighting patterns for portraits; Split, Rembrandt, Paramount and Loop. Of course these are not set in stone rather they are “universally acknowledged benchmarks in a continuum of possibilities.” (That line was too good not to use :D, thanks portraitlighting.net).
These patterns are formed based on the relation of light source and model and to tell them apart one should look at the shadow that falls on the nose! (doesn’t apply to split or rembrandt though).
To achieve the patterns is pretty easy and straight forward, only one light source is needed and sometimes a fill card to sort of tone down the harsh contrast that gets formed (which i forgot to use ooopsy :D) but for the purpose of this illustration these pictures will just have to do.

L-R: 1.split, 2.rembrandt, 3.paramount & 3.loop
1.Split lighting results in a split of light across your models face, one half engulfed in light and the other in the shadows (ta daaa!!). The light source is slightly above subject’s eye level and on either preferred side.
2.Rembrandt lighting is named after a famous Dutch painter of the same name. This is the the type of lighting that produces a triangle of light on the side of the face that is engulfed by shadow. Light source is much higher above the subject and on the side.
3. Paramount lighting comes from Paramount studio and typically the sort of lighting used by Hollywood photographers way back in the 30s. This lighting pattern is characterized by a sort of butterfly shaped shadow below subject’s nose. Light source is on-top and in-front of subject.
4. Loop lighting forms a loop sort of shadow that falls on either side of the nose, depending on where the light source is positioned.
Okay that’s all folks, fun eh?!
